Asphalt Emulsion Pumping Application: Overcoming Challenges in Construction

In the construction sector, particularly in applications involving asphalt emulsions, pump selection and system design come with unique technical and strategic challenges. Our team was able to create a pivotal engagement with our customer, involved in key milestone infrastructure project in India, as they embarked on this transformative infrastructure project.

The customer required a robust asphalt emulsion system that could meet the rigorous demands of mobile plant operations.

But working on the asphalt emulsion application posed several critical concerns:

  • Initial plans of the emulsion plant went through significant localization

  • Technical information provided to the team was limited

  • There were major operational diversity and needed dynamic changes

  • The plant needed to be mobile

The best engineering solution provided by Viking:

To overcome these challenges, we engaged early in the pre-bid stage and delivered targeted technical support:

  • Pressure Drop Calculations: Delivered custom analysis and piping layout suggestions to ensure optimal system performance.

  • Design Inputs & Drawings: Shared preliminary design illustrations that helped streamline equipment compatibility.

  • Standardization Strategy: Proposed a common gear pump model with unified power ratings across the board, simplifying sourcing and maintenance.

Outcome:

Thanks to this proactive collaboration:

  • The customer placed an initial order for 5 Viking pumps, tailored to their specifications.

  • An additional order of 6 pumps is expected in 2025, demonstrating continued confidence and satisfaction.

This case underscores how early technical involvement, informed assumptions, and standardized solutions can empower construction leaders to deliver complex infrastructure projects with speed and reliability.
