En las bombas, se trata de un espacio hueco por donde el eje giratorio entra en el cuerpo fijo de la bomba. Aunque el término proviene de la empaquetadura que se colocaba alrededor del eje para lograr el sellado, hoy en día la caja de empaquetadura de una bomba suele estar equipada con un sello mecánico, un sello de labio o un sello O-Pro® en lugar de una empaquetadura tradicional

What is a pump stuffing box?

In pumps, the stuffing box is the hollow space where the rotating shaft enters the stationary pump housing. While the term originated from shaft packing that was “stuffed” around the shaft to create a seal, today a pump’s stuffing box can be fitted with a mechanical seal, lip seal, or O-Pro® seal instead of packing.
